Open Workshops:

Expert Group on Permafrost and Periglacial Environments Open Meeting
(Tuesday 12th July from 1800)

EGPPE invites colleagues interested in the dynamics of the Antarctic and sub-Antarctic permafrost and periglacial environments to join the Open EGPPE meeting. The meeting will focus on activity planning for the forthcoming years and on discussing future collaborations. Previous activities have been focusing on permafrost surveying, monitoring and modelling, geomorphological dynamics and soils and during the IPY have been framed within the IPY core project ANTPAS - Antarctic and Sub-Antarctic Permafrost, Soils and Periglacial Environments.

CASP/ANTscape workshop: 'Antarctic seismo-stratigraphy and palaeogeography: 100 Ma to present.' (Sunday 10 July 0830-1730)

Venue: Salisbury room, John McIntyre Conference Centre

This workshop will bring together members of the CASP and ANTscape SCAR-ACE working groups. The workshop focus is on: 1) the generation of offshore stratigraphy data and sediment volumes for key climate boundaries and the associated challenges; and 2) the assessment of an ongoing Late Cretaceous palaeogeographic reconstruction and the processes to be incorporated in reconstructing palaeogeography at the Paleocene-Eocene Thermal Maximum (PETM). Shallow Drilling (SHALDRIL) workshop (Sunday 17th July)

On Sunday, July 17th, 2011, the Sunday following the ISAES XI Symposium, Bruce Luyendyk and Frank Rack will host a one-day workshop exploring targets for shallow drilling (SHALDRIL) expeditions around the continental margin of Antarctica. The workshop will have two main themes: scientific issues that can be addressed by the recovery of short (<100 m) cores and the available or developing technology to drill and recover these cores.
