Publications
The International Symposium on Antarctic Earth Sciences is a flagship meeting for the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR) with a history of well respected and valuable research publications.
There will be 2 main publications to accompany ISAES 11 in Edinburgh.
The Keynote Book: This printed hardback volume, published by the Royal Society of Edinburgh, will contain 10 summary papers by the invited Plenary Speakers, continuing the format started at ISAES 10. These specially commissioned state-of-the-art reviews by leading experts will cover the whole spectrum of Antarctic Earth Sciences. The book, edited by Martin Siegert, Tom Bradwell, Jane Francis and David Sugden, will be published within 6 months of close of the Symposium (Dec 2011) and will be made available to all registered delegates. The volume will also be dual-published as a Special Issue of the ISI journal Earth and Environmental Sciences: Transactions of the Royal Society of Edinburgh.
The General Scientific Proceedings: This will highlight the full range of new research presented at ISAES 11 and is open to anyone submitting an abstract to the Edinburgh Symposium. We invite delegates to formally indicate their interest in submitting a written paper to the Symposium volumes. The deadline is 30 November 2011, but earlier contributions are welcome.
We are planning four volumes under the following titles:
Volume I. Antarctica and supercontinent evolution
Volume II. Antarctic glacial and periglacial processes
Volume III. Antarctic palaeoclimatic, palaeogeographical and palaeobiological evolution
Volume IV. Antarctic Quaternary environments and climate change
For organizing the editorial teams, it would be helpful if you could complete this form and either place it physically in the drop-box in the conference venue, or e-mail it to the chief editor, Mike Hambrey ([email protected]).
We hope to publish these in the Special Publications Series of the Geological Society of London (proposal currently under peer-review). Papers will be refereed to standards applied to the Journal of the Geological Society. We anticipate that papers will be published online, if they are accepted, and once they have cleared the review process. Hardback volumes are anticipated for November 2012. Authors receive a pdf of their paper, and have an opportunity to purchase the volume at 25% of the selling price. There are no page charges, except for colour and foldouts; these are not yet known.
In addition to this, the complete ISAES 11 Abstract volume will be given to each delegate in pdf format on a USB memory stick as part of their registration pack. This will be edited by the ISAES 11 committee and produced by Celia Lloyd.
Note: This page will be revised as the publications develop, and the information provided herein may be subject to change depending on the final number of registered delegates.
