Printing from a non-managed windows machineTo print to the School's print server from a personal (non-managed) windows PC, please do the following: From the Run... item on the Start menu, open:\\geoshome3.geos.ed.ac.uk\ This should give you a list of printers to choose from. Double-click on the printer you wish to use, and a dialogue box will ask whether you wish to allow a printer driver to be installed. Agree to the printer driver being installed - you should end up with an entry for the printer in your list of printers. If you are unable to print to the printer you have set up, you may need to map a drive to the print server. Please map a drive letter of your choice to \\geoshome3.geos.ed.ac.uk\print$ If you want to print to the Photocopiers, you will need to use your UUN (University Username) as the account name on the machine from which you are printing - i.e. you have to be logged on to the machine as jsmith12 or s0812342, rather than as "Joe Smith". You can ensure that you are connected to the print server with correct credentials from the command line using cmd: From the Run... item on the Start menu, type: cmd In the command window type (replacing s0812342 with your uun): net use \\geoshome3.geos.ed.ac.uk\print$ /user:ED\s0812342 * This will prompt for the password which you use to log in in open access labs and will ensure that the correct username is used for the connection. You will need to repeat this step if you disconnect/reconnect or logoff/on. |
