Printing to Photocopiers from Mac OS X

Printing to the School photocopiers from Mac OS X has two specific requirements.

  • It is essential to use your University User Name (UUN) as your login name. I.e. the name of the user you log in as must match the username used on University systems. If your UUN is jbloggs7, but you have told the Mac you are called JoBloggs, things just won't work!
  • It seems to be necessary to load an appropriate driver. Drivers can be found on the Oc website - follow the menu system to find a driver for the appropriate model and then you should reach "Install Driver on MacOS X".
  • Connecting to the printers using lpd seems to be the most reliable.
    • Add Printer
    • Choose "LPD Printers using IP"
    • IP address is cups.geos.ed.ac.uk
    • Set the queue name to the printer you want.
    • Set the name to match the printer (the default is confusing)
    • Choose the printer model (from Other...) to Oc ... (without accounting)
