Magmatism in the North Atlantic
Investigators: Prof. Godfrey Fitton
Relations between mantle plume and mid-ocean ridge magmatism in the North Atlantic. The V-shaped features centred on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge south of Iceland are interpreted as variations in the thickness of the ocean crust (thicker in red, thinner in blue), and imply pulses of hotter-than-normal mantle propagating away from Iceland.
