Anton Ziolkowski

Anton Ziolkowski was appointed to the new chair of Petroleum Geoscience at the University of Edinburgh in 1992. He is currently funded by Petroleum GeoServices (PGS) as part of a Strategic Alliance between PGS and the University of Edinburgh. He co-founded MTEM Limited, a 2004 spinout from the University of Edinburgh, and was MTEM’s Technical Director until 2007, when the company was bought by PGS, where he became Chief Scientist, Geoscience and Engineering. He returned to the University from his secondment to MTEM and PGS in March 2010. He was Headquarters Geophysicist to the National Coal Board (1976-1980) and then consultant to the British National Oil Corporation (1980-1982), before embarking on an academic career in 1982 as Professor of Applied Geophysics at Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands. He held that position for ten years and then moved to Edinburgh in 1992. He received the Conrad Schlumberger Award of the European Association of Exploration Geophysicists, 1982; he was elected Member of Hollandse Maatschappij der Wetenschappen (Dutch Society of Scientists), 1991; he was Fall Distinguished Lecturer of the Society of Exploration Geophysicsts, 1994; he was elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, 1995; he was appointed Guest Professor, Changchun University of Science and Technology, China, 1997; he was elected Member of Academia Europaea, 2000.
