Cameca SX100 electron microprobe

The Chemical Dating Unit (CDU) was established in 2008 to provide a centre for the chemical dating of suitable minerals by electron probe microanalysis and to complement the NERC ion microprobe isotopic dating facilitity

The Unit provides a service to the earth and environmental science community. It is located in the Grant Institute of Earth Science at the University of Edinburgh. To date, this is the only facility for chemical dating by EPMA within the UK.

Instrumentation

The Unit comprises a five spectrometer Cameca SX100 electron microprobe for major and minor element analysis. A Cameca ims 1270 ion microprobe is also available for dating by isotopic measurements.
